Course Policy
The Uechi-Ryu Karate Club accepts new members at any time. Virginia Tech students, faculty and even
individuals not affiliated with Virginia Tech may join. If you wish to attend a class, please send an email
to the Instructor to let him know you are coming.
Dues of $10 will be collected by the treasurer during class on the third Sunday after the semester begins.
If dues are not paid, participation will not be allowed. Individuals wishing to join the class are entitled
two classes before dues will be required.
A Rank Promotion Test (RPT) is held at the end of every semester. Invitations to the test are handed out several
weeks prior to the RPT. Individuals are assessed based upon there performance over the entire semester. This
includes not only meeting the test requirements for ones rank, but attendance, attitude, and effort as well. New members
joining after the 6th week of classes will not be permitted to test that semester under any circumstance but may continue
to learn and train with the rest of the class.
This class deals moderately with sport sparring, where individuals use punches and kicks to try and score on their
opponent. While protective gear is always used, there is still a chance for injury and therefore all individuals
wishing to participate in the class will be required to fill out a waiver which is part of the Confidential Evaluation
Sheet.
A note to prospective members with past martial arts experience: In order to maintain a safe environment, all
joining members regardless of past experience will undergo monitored and slow progression for the first couple months.
This means; do not expect to join this club and begin full contact sparring and advanced drills from day one. A
strong emphasis will be placed on the basics and sparring will start with beginner drills and progress as the instructor
sees fit.
